Christmas in Dublin

Christmas is Coming to Dublin

…And there’s a lot to do! If you’re coming to Dublin in the next few weeks, check some of the following schedules for markets, tree-lightings, and more!

  1. Dublin Event Guide (www.dublineventguide.com) – Home to a great weekly list of free events, holiday or not. Subscribe and follow so you don’t miss anything.
  2. Dublin at Christmas (www.dublinatchristmas.com) – This website/Facebook page/Twitter feed tracks Christmas events all over the city throughout the holiday season, brought to you by Dublin Town (www.dublintown.ie).
  3. Visit Dublin (Christmas events link) – Not all of these are free or cheap, but the list has some nice idea inspirations for the “walk around and see the stuff” kind of traveler.
  4. Dublin.ie (Christmas events link) – Another list of shows and events around the city if you haven’t filled up your schedule with the lists above.

Hit the Markets

Keep your eyes peeled for Christmas markets, too! A number of markets were open for the weekend of November 28-30 only, including the Lidl Christmas Market at Custom House Quay.

The St. Stephen’s Green Christmas Market runs through the season and has been quite busy as Dublin has been condensing many of the smaller markets. Sadly, the crowds can really swell when the weather is nice on the green, and queues to get into the market can be quite long.

I stopped by St. Stephen’s on the last week in November and checked out what was on offer. Most of the stalls were selling crafts, many of the artisan food vendors we saw at markets last year have eluded us. Leave a comment if you find the craft meat, cheese, and candy makers at a holiday market this year!
